International Interdisciplinary Conference

Septembre 29th 2011 at Campus Valrose in Nice

Septembre 30th 2011 at the Villa Arson in Nice

Organised in partnership by the University Nice Sophia-Antipolis and
the Association Contemporary Art and the Côte d'Azur
The Conference Contemporary Art and the Côte d’Azur - An Area for Experimentation, 1951 – 2011 aims to reflect contemporary art in a given area, the Riviera, from the years post-war until today. It aims to understand why the Riviera  is a formidable laboratory for 60 years, that continues to produce and host artists. The papers and plenary sessions will seek to exceed the usual points of reference between the different artistic movements to a panorama of artistic production under the sign of experimentation. This conference is organized within the framework of the event Contemporary Art and the Côte d’Azur - An Area for Experimentation, 1951 – 2011 and is at the initiative of the national museums of the XXth century in the Alpes-Maritime, Museum of Modern and contemporary Art in Nice, Jean Cocteau Museum in Menton, the Château de Villeneuve / Emile Hugues Foundation in Vence, and the National Centre of Contemporary Art Villa Arson.
