These drawings are like short stories, aphorisms, haikus, rakis ... A way to be lightweight, fast, not to occupy too much room on the sheet as in the space... Sketches ? Studies? No, completed artworks, finished, but which leave the viewer plenty of time to stitch around his own story. They are small bows, like those hand signs, made without dwelling, without waiting for an answer, but let be no mistake, they are carved out by a skilled goldsmith hand to reach hight, right to the point !
Junko Yamasaki and Gerald Panighi have very different origins and cultures, Japanese for Junko, French for Gerald, but they both studied at the Villa Arson of which they are graduated. I would say that this is not the only thing that unites them, and fortunately so, because once out of the mold, they have retained a very special integrity and sensitivity. For me, what brings them together or, at least, what makes it not strange to see them together is the delicate insistence with which their work imposed itself, but without proselytizing, with intelligence, grace and humor.
